Castaic Lake, California

Friday July 5th, 2002

I've ridden with Joe Balint once before in Havasu during the Just Ride stop last summer, he had just purchased his (new to him) Super Air Nautique and we all had an awesome time helping him break it in. So when I made plans to travel to the Los Angeles area to visit my brother for the 4th of July holiday, I dropped Joe a line and inquired if he had any room that weekend.

The Ski Cove at Castaic, look such Horrible conditions!!!

Look the ink, it's Scott Byerly.... Nope, just my brother Bob getting ready to ride

While out visiting my brother Bob, who recently moved to Irvine, I took the opportuity to hook back up with Joe Balint and catch a little SoCal love from the wakeboarding scene out at Castaic Lake. What a great set up, even without the Ski Cove, the landscape is beautiful, the people are freindly and the fog is trippy! We were up early and met Balint around 7 hoping to catch a few runs before he headed into work for a half day.

Surveying all that is Castaic's Ski Cove, I'm contemplating a dock Start!!!

Two Differnt Angles of the Horrible Dock Start Attempt

The crew that morning consisted of Joe, Gene one of Joe's Co-workers, Bob and myself. Getting the boat set-up and in the water by 7:15 was key, it allowed all of us to take three passes in the ski cove and thoroughly wear ourselves out. The early morning fog at Castaic is normal, but being from Arizona it was a phenomenon I was unfamilar with, although it made for quite an adventure pulling out of the loading dock.

Refreshing!! The water temp was awesome, better than Az Bathwater.....
